Illustrations

EVENT Magazine seeks emerging illustrators to produce work in response to the poetry and prose we publish. We’re looking for clean, contemporary black and white drawings to appear alongside the printed work.

We pay a flat rate of $500 per issue, which will include 10 illustrations, completed in a time frame of approximately 2 months. We request images no larger than 5″x8″ (our page size is 6″x9″), in greyscale, TIFF format, and at a minimum of 300 dpi. We’ll provide poems, as well as excerpts of short stories and creative non-fiction pieces to inspire the drawings. Artists will also receive 2 contributor’s copies of the issue. We buy first North American serial print rights and limited, non-exclusive digital rights; copyright reverts to the artist after publication.

Here are a couple sample layouts from a recent issue, illustrated by the talented April Milne:

Illustration by April Milne; text from Richard Cumyn’s “Conversational French.” EVENT 46/1.

Illustration by April Milne; poem by Chris Oke. EVENT 46/1.

Here are some more illustrations that have struck our fancy.
