Hurry! (Writing contests for procrastinators)
Is there anything a writer likes hearing more than “the deadline’s been extended”? There are a couple of terrific writing contests on right now, some of which have uttered those exact magical words. If you’ve been nervously hanging on to that precious piece of writing, now’s your chance. Fulfill all of your 2013 resolutions about submitting your work before the month runs out!
- Prism international has extended its poetry and fiction contest deadlines to February 5th, so get crackin’!
- Geist has extended its Literal Literary Postcard Story Contest all the way to March 1st, so you’ve got plenty of time there. Good thing too, because first you’ll need to find a postcard worthy of your wit and wisdom.
- No extensions from the CBC (they’re total hardasses over there), but still some time to submit your work for their Canada Writes Creative Nonfiction Prize, with a fast-approaching deadline of February 1st (at 11:59 pm. Told you they weren’t kidding.)
- No extension needed for this great contest brought to you by the Writers’ Union of Canada. Their Short Prose Competition is especially geared towards newer writers, who haven’t yet been published in book form. This one’s for you, so don’t miss the March 1st deadline!
Of course, if you’ve got a little bit more time on your hands, you can keep working away at your brilliant piece of non-fiction, in time for EVENT’s own Annual Non-fiction contest, with an April 15th deadline. Just sayin’…
